Mechanical Design Engineer

Summary

As a Mechanical Engineer you will have an integral role within the organization as part of the Engineering Division of Kelson. You will work alongside a team of Engineers and have responsibility for the design process and to develop some of the most exciting mechanical design projects within the ICI industry across Canada. Key to your success is your ability to work in a collaborative team-based environment with significant latitude to develop key relationships with clients, architects, consultants and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a comprehensive concept design including complete load calculations, schematics, equipment recommendations and system concept report.
  • Collaborate with internal contributors as well as external contacts including consultants, architects, clients and 3rd party individuals.
  • Prepare a full package of contract documents including specifications, drawings and instructions to bidders.
  • Participate with the Project Manager at on-site visits during the construction phase and attend on-site meetings as required.
  • Liaise with the Scheduling Team to ensure timely updates to the Schedule.
  • Work in collaboration with the BIM Team to conduct shop drawing reviews; evaluate and make modifications as required.
  • Work closely with the Project Management Team to provide support; ensure ASHRAE & LEED compliance where applicable; provide status reports and ensure a seamless transition during the construction phase of the project.
  • Develop strong client relationships with the view to sourcing additional work and to seek out new opportunities with existing and new clients.
  • Demonstrate creativity and resourcefulness in all interactions with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative and inclusive work style with all departments across the organization.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5-7 years of engineering/design experience, preferably in a client facing role.
  • Professional Engineering Designation or eligibility for licence in the Province of Ontario.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards, construction industry standards and codes.
  • Well-established project management experience including strong judgment, reasoning and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD and REVIT is an asset.
  • Strong communication, organizational and technical skills with the ability to interact with a diverse team of contributors including the ability to convey information to non-engineering professionals in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent organizational & highly developed communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of clients, consultants, architects, internal stakeholders and on-site team members.
