Kelson was the mechanical contractor for the new Ethennonnhawahstihnen Community Recreation Centre and Library. Total size is 209,00 sq. ft. A 38,000 sq.ft. recreation space that includes a double gymnasium with change rooms, an indoor running/walking track, a fitness studio, a weight room, multiple art rooms, a preschool room, a games room, pool, library, offices, a divisible community hall with a kitchen, several multi-purpose rooms of varying sizes, 3 levels of underground parking (418 parking spaces), and 3 levels plus mezzanine above ground, and a rooftop solar farm. The building was constructed south of Sheppard Avenue (formerly the Canadian Tire warehouse location) and just east of Bessarion Avenue. This is the largest comprehensive community centre in Toronto. A 27,000 square foot aquatic space that includes a 25m x 6 lane lap pool, a leisure pool with barrier-free ramp access (complete with various water play features) and a deck area with a public viewing gallery within the pool enclosure (for leisure swim and tot lessons). The library is part of the Toronto Library Branch is a 13,000 sq.ft. space. A 6,400 square-foot child care centre for 52 children. The space is complete with fun and interactive outdoor play areas.
Mechanical Systems
Air Handling Unit (AHU) for Pool Dehumidification unit with Heat recovery from DX is Primary source for Pool Heat and Dry Cooler as backup on condenser and HW - HX for pool heating. 3 other AHU's - Glycol heating, Electric Humidifiers, DX Cooling. Boiler room on P1 level - 4 HW Boilers - 3 for HW Heating - 1 for DHW with redundancy. 2 400kW Natural Gas Fired Emergency Generators –supplied by others (venting and Natural Gas connection by Kelson). 5 RTU's - Glycol Heating, NG fired Humidifiers, DX Cooling. Greywater system using rainwater for irrigation on site.
