Thunder Bay Correctional Centre
Location: Thunder Bay
A new 345 bed correctional facility located in Thunder Bay Ontario. The project is being delivered through a design build model for Infrastructure Ontario. The architectural design of the facility includes many indigenous influences and cultural/spiritual symbols. Spiritual program spaces have been included extensively throughout the facility with specific mechanical requirements to accommodate smudging ceremonies. Target for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification, with a focus on energy efficiency, healthy indoor environments and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
The mechanical highlights of the project include a high efficiency central boiler plant, a central chiller plant that incorporates thermal energy storage to maximize operating efficiencies, fuel oil systems, DOAS units to maximize energy recovery from the building exhaust systems and variable air volume AHUs for air distribution. A state-of-the-art building automation system will integrate all mechanical systems and provide controls for optimal energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
