Located in Cobourg, Ontario, the new Golden Plough Lodge replaces the previous long-term care facility and will be the only municipally operated home of its kind in Northumberland County. This 204,000 sq. ft., four-story facility offers 180 beds in private and semi-private configurations, along with dining halls, recreation spaces, family lounges, and other resident-focused amenities. The building also houses the Northumberland County Archives and Museum, which features exhibits and archived materials that preserve historical and cultural records of Northumberland County. The project is targeting LEED Silver certification.
Mechanical Systems
Kelson delivered a state-of-the-art mechanical system designed for comfort, efficiency, and reliability. The building is served by 6 custom rooftop air handling units and a Building Automation System (BAS) for centralized control. Heating is provided by 3 natural gas hydronic boilers connected to over 400 reheat coils and variable air volume (VAV) boxes, while cooling is supplied by 11 air-cooled condensers. Snowmelt systems are installed in the delivery bay and loading dock, as well as the front entrances of both the Long-Term Care and Northumberland County Archives and Museum. The facility includes roughly 500 plumbing fixtures, supporting patient rooms, spas, a large commercial kitchen, centralized laundry facilities featuring 6 commercial washing machines and 6 commercial dryers, several serveries, and lounges throughout the building.
